Release of Three Interviews from the CC Education Kit - Sidekick, Syaoran and Edmon Chung

A follow-up from the last post, three last interviews from the CC Education Kit are released.

Just to recapitulate regarding to the production of the CC Education Kit, it was a part of the effort to prepare for the Launch of Creative Commons in Hong Kong on the 25 Oct 2008. The content of the kit is based on interviews of renowned artists, composers, bloggers and IT experts. The kit starts with an introduction of the concept of some rights reserved and the relevance of CC to Hong Kong.

Syaoran likes to consume creative works in different medium, and he is a creator too. In his spare time, he has been a citizen journalist, published novels, composed lyrics, hosted online radio programmes and produced radio dramas, also designed Chinese fonts… He tried to pack all the above into his career and now he is working in the media industry. Edmon Chung - CEO, DotAsia Organisation; Vice Chair, Internet Society HK

Edmon Chung is currently serving as the Vice Chair for the Internet Society HK. Edmon is also serving as an elected member of the Elections Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, an elected councillor of the ICANN GNSO Council, and Secretariat for the ICANN APRALO (Asia Pacific At-Large Organisation).

In 2002, Edmon became involved with the region-wide .Asia initiative to create the first global top-level domain in Asia. Edmon played a leadership role in the project and was instrumental in bringing the headquarters of the DotAsia Organisation to Hong Kong. In 2006, Edmon is designated as the CEO to lead the organisation in the historical launch of the .Asia Internet domain.

Edmon is an inventor of patents underlying technologies for internationalized domain names (IDN) and email addresses on the Internet. He founded Neteka Inc. in partnership with the University of Toronto Innovations Foundation in 1999, and went on to win the Most Innovative Award in the Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurship Award in 2001. In 2000, Edmon was selected by The Globe and Mail as one of the Young Canadian Leaders.

Edmon has a Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Engineering from the University of Toronto, and is a PhD candidate at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.

Release of Two Interviews from the CC Education Kit - Anson Mak and v-artivist

Part of the effort in the preparation of the Launch of Creative Commons in Hong Kong on the 25 Oct 2008 was the production of the CC Education Kit. The content of the kit is based on interviews of renowned artists, composers, bloggers and IT experts. The kit starts with an introduction of the concept of some rights reserved and the relevance of CC to Hong Kong.

Videos of some of the interviews in the education kit will be made available in Cantonese. The first two videos released are from Anson Mak and v-artivist.

Anson Mak Hoi Shan

Anson Mak Hoi Shan, is a local born Hong Konger. She is a writer, blogger, phonographer, film/video artist and a cultural critic. At present, she is studying a Doctor of Fine Art programme at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University and working in Hong Kong on research projects and teaching – in universities and community centres. She obtained a BSSc from the Department of Cinema and Television, School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University in 1991, and a Master of Philosophy in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Hong Kong. She has created more than twenty film/video works. Some of them were awarded in the Hong Kong Independent Short Film and Video Awards. Her works have been screened in many festivals in Hong Kong and overseas. She is a writer and musician (a band member of AMK) as well. Her writings have been published in many newspapers and magazines.

v-artivist, Wai Yi

v-artivist is a community-based media advocacy group dedicated to build and develop the link of art with the people. The group produces video documentaries on social issues and organize video workshops of various styles designed for grassroot. RTHK “Hong Kong Illustrators” online event

4 March 2009

“Hong Kong Illustrators”, the e-Learning site of Radio Television Hong Kong, is now hosting a special event - “Let’s Draw Together!”(漫有引力). “Let’s Draw Together!” now accepts online contributions. The contributors can also choose to stamp their works with a Creative Commons licence for legal sharing and promote Free Culture. There is also an online DIY drawing board to let you capture your inspiration at this very moment. Prizes will be given out to outstanding works. You can access the gallery here.

Web 2.0 & Free Culture - Benefits and Opportunities

The Student Society of Computing of the Open University of Hong Kong organised a Talk on “Web 2.0 & Free Culture - Benefits and Opportunities”. Dr. Haggen So, Project Manager of Creative Commons, will be the keynote speaker. Other speakers include Jeromy Yu (Wikimedia HK), Sammy Fung(OAKA), Jonathan Sin(MobileRadio.hk), Leon Ho (Lifehack, Stepcase), ClubEddy and Jansen Lu.

Informal Meeting with CC Artists from the Philippines - Drip

One of the presenter at the second Asia Pacific Creative Commons Conference, “The Commons Crossroads: Defining the Roadmap for Creative Commons in Asia and the Pacific”, Drip, will be performing in Hong Kong at the HK Live monthly event on Sat, 7 Mar 2009.

On the Sunday after the performance, the band would like to share how they made themselves famous and collaborated with other musicians worldwide through licensing their works under Creative Commons and distributing them using different online tools such as ccMixter.
