NetMission Ambassadors to bridge the Digital Divide

One important focus for Creative Commons Hong Kong is education. Making education materials accessibility for all is one of our dreams. DotAsia, a not-for-profit organization, shares the same dream. They are implementing this approach through the NetMission Ambassadors (http://NetMission.asia) program.

The NetMission Ambassadors program aims to bring together a network of dedicated young volunteers devoted towards promoting and contributing towards digital inclusion, Internet governance as well as a respectable and harmonious Internet environment. The program will recruit and select 25 Young NetMission Ambassadors every year, who will take part in a comprehensive training program including seminars, workshops, site visits and exchange programs in China and around Asia to participate in related national and international events.

The second Asia Pacific Creative Commons Conference, “The Commons Crossroads: Defining the Roadmap for Creative Commons in Asia and the Pacific”, was held in Manila of the Philippines on 5-6 of February 2009. CCHK participated in this event by sending our project manager, Dr. Haggen So.

Punch Party Hong Kong

Punch Party Hong Kong

Punch Party Hong Kong is the first event initiated and organised by local bloggers in Hong Kong. The party will consist of talks with no more than 7 minutes each, so every one of them will be brilliant and concise.

Punch Party originated from the Pecha Kucha events in Japan and is immensely popular in Taiwan. It was held in Beijing and Guangzhou and now Hong Kong. The theme for the first Hong Kong Punch Party will be on “Blogging and Career”.

Punch Party Hong Kong supports CC and the content of the party will be released under a CC licence. Punch Party Hong Kong also promotes the importance of sharing and they would like to invite all Creative Commons supporters to participate.

Public Consultation on Chinese translation of Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share Alike 3.0 Hong Kong licence

Our legal team has produced a Chinese translation of BY-NC-SA Hong Kong licence, which is based on two drafts, one by KK Lee of Open Courseware and the other by a law student Chan Hei Ching, with revisions from Alice Lee. We would like to take this opportunity to thank their wonderful work and effort.

“One Laptop Per Child” (OLPC) is here

Not only is the “One Laptop Per Child” (OLPC) a great project for the children in developing countries, the project also integrated Creative Commons licensing as an important policy of the project. Content created or donated in the project are CC-licensed (for example:8.5 GB of CC-Licensed Samples for the OLPC).

The project established the Asia office in Hong Kong and twenty thousand OLPCs will be donated to Sichuan in the first phase. The details can be found below. There are also two coming events:

1. IT Fun Day
Date: 21st December, 2008 (Sunday)
Time: 2:00pm ~ 5:00pm
Venue: Around the junction of Morrison Street and Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan

The IT Fun Day is a carnival with award presentation, performance, booth display and games with the latest IT applications and aims to promote IT concepts to the public.

Two booths will be run by OLPC. Come and see the machines for real.
